Funds and shares, plain words
Money market funds, the NSE, and risk versus reward
The story
Achieng, 16, has saved KES 5,000 from holiday work. Her uncle mentions two options: a money market fund, and shares on the NSE.
The big idea
A money market fund pools money from many people and puts it into low-risk things like government bills. It usually pays more than a basic savings account, but returns change and aren’t guaranteed.
Ask at home
Look up one company listed on the NSE with your teen and talk about what it does and how it makes money.
