How insurance works

Many people pay a little so a few aren’t ruined

Level 6: Big money ideas · from age 13 · 3 minutes · 3 Kesho Stars

The story

In this example, 100 boda boda riders each pay KES 2,000 a year into a shared pool. If a rider’s bike is badly damaged, the pool pays for repairs.

The big idea

Insurance words: the premium is what you pay regularly. A claim is when you ask for a payout. The excess is the part you pay yourself before insurance pays the rest.

Ask at home

Talk about one kind of insurance your family has, what it covers and why you chose it.

The full lesson, with its questions and Kesho Stars, is in the myKesho kids app.
