Borrowing from a SACCO

Savings multiples, guarantors and dividends

Level 6: Big money ideas · from age 13 · 3 minutes · 3 Kesho Stars

The story

Mama Wairimu has saved KES 50,000 in her SACCO over five years. Now she wants a loan to expand her tailoring shop.

The big idea

Many SACCOs let members borrow a multiple of what they’ve saved, for example up to 3 times their savings. The more you save, the more you can borrow.

Ask at home

If anyone in the family belongs to a SACCO or chama, talk about how borrowing and guarantors work there.

The full lesson, with its questions and Kesho Stars, is in the myKesho kids app.
