Pay later, pay more

The real total of a pay-a-little plan

Level 5: Planning ahead · from age 12 · 3 minutes · 3 Kesho Stars

The story

Shiro’s big sister wants a phone. The cash price is KES 10,000. A pay-later plan says: KES 1,000 today, then just KES 50 a day for 240 days.

The big idea

“Only KES 50 a day” sounds small on purpose. Always multiply it out and compare the total with the cash price. Some plans also lock the phone if you miss payments.

Ask at home

Find a pay-later or instalment offer together and work out the total cost versus the cash price.
