Add money your child was given or earned

Record extra money from you, a gift from Shosh, or cash they earned outside, into Wallet or Save.

For parents · Day to day

Steps

  1. 1

Open Kids, tap your child’s card and tap Add money. For a child under 6, tap Add savings.

  2. 2

Under Where it’s from, choose From me, A gift or Earned.

  3. 3

For a gift, fill in Who gave it. For earnings, fill in How they earned it, like selling mandazi or helping a neighbour.

  4. 4

    Type the Amount.

  5. 5

Under Where it goes, choose Wallet or Save.

  6. 6

Tap the button with the amount, like Add KES 100.

You keep the cash. This adds it to their jars so the record matches. Your child gets a note, and a gift shows in their app so they can say thank you.

Which to choose

  • From me: a top-up, or money to cover a school event.
  • A gift: money a relative gave in person. If they used the gift link, confirm it from Gifts on the way instead. See Confirm a gift.
  • Earned: money from a small business or a job outside the family tasks.

For a child under 6, there’s no Earned and no jar choice. Everything goes into their savings, and straight towards their goal if they have one. The hint reminds you to keep the real money in the bank, a SACCO or at home.

Keep a gift’s giver short and clear, like “Shosh” or “Uncle Ken”. It’s what your child sees when they say thank you.

Questions

Is there a limit?

Up to KES 100,000 in one go.

I added money to the wrong child.

Open that child, tap Use their money to take it out, then add it to the right child.

Should earned money go to Save?

Your choice. Many families put some in each: add part to Wallet, then the rest to Save.
