Let an older child spend without asking
Give a teen a small weekly budget they spend on their own. They still record it, and you see every spend.
Steps
- 1
Open Kids and tap your child’s card.
- 2
Tap the card that says Asks before every spend. Once it’s on, the same card says how much they can spend a week.
- 3
Type an amount under Each week, or tap a quick amount.
- 4
Tap Save.
- 5
To stop, open the same card and tap Turn it off, or empty the box and tap Save.
Up to that amount each week (Monday to Sunday), your child spends from their wallet without asking. In their app, Use my money shows a Spend button instead of an ask. Anything over the amount is a normal ask for you.
You get a note for each spend, with what it was for and what’s left this week. The card on their page shows how much is used this week.
A good amount
Start with part of their allowance, like snacks and data money, and raise it as they show they can plan. It suits Mjenzi and Kiongozi kids best. The most is KES 10,000 a week.
They still can’t spend more than is in their wallet, and Save still needs your yes.
Questions
Does it work for younger kids?
It’s there for every child with their own app, but it’s made for older kids. Younger ones learn more from asking.
Does unspent budget roll over?
No. It starts again every Monday. What they didn’t spend stays in their wallet.
