What each age group gets, and turning 6

Chipukizi, Mvumbuzi, Mjenzi and Kiongozi: what changes at each age, and how to set up a child’s app at 6.

For parents · Age groups

Steps

  1. 1

Open Kids and tap your child’s card. Their age group shows under their name, with their next birthday.

  2. 2

For a child under 6, use Add savings and Set a goal to build their savings pot.

  3. 3

When they turn 6, their page shows a card like Amani can have their own app now, with your child’s name. Tap Set up Amani’s app.

  4. 4

Type a New 4-digit PIN you choose together and tap Set PIN.

  5. 5

Tap Allowance under Jars and set the weekly amount and how it splits. A savings pot starts with no allowance and everything in Save, so this step matters.

  6. 6

Show them the Kids app box on their page: the address, their username and the PIN you chose.

The four groups

GroupAgesWhat they get
Chipukizi (Little sprout)0 to 5A savings pot you run. No chores, no PIN and no app yet. Relatives can add with a gift link.
Mvumbuzi (Explorer)6 to 10Their own app with Wallet, Save and Share jars, chores that pay and short lessons. You say yes to every spend.
Mjenzi (Builder)11 to 14Bigger goals, budgets and the Grow lab. A good age to try a small weekly spend without asking.
Kiongozi (Leader)15 to 17More say over their money: a weekly budget of their own, big goals, hustles and grown-up lessons.

The group changes on its own as they grow. New lessons open by age, and the kids app looks a little more grown-up for older kids. For Kiongozi, the Tasks tab is called Jobs.

Under 6: the savings pot

A Chipukizi page has Add savings, Set a goal, a Saving for list and a Gift link. Money you add goes into Save, and straight towards their goal if they have one. Gifts you confirm go to their savings with every message kept for when they’re older.

On their 6th birthday you get a note on Home saying they can have their own app. Their username is already made; you can change it once the app is set up.

Can I set up the app before they turn 6?
