Set up Term pocket money for boarding school
Set the term dates and the total. One week’s share opens each week, so it lasts the whole term.
Steps
- 1
When you add your child, choose Boarding school under How they get pocket money.
- 2
On Home, under Finish setting up, tap Set up next to Set up Amani’s term (with your child’s name). Or open their page and tap Set up Term pocket money under Jars.
- 3
Pick Term starts and Term ends, then type Pocket money for the whole term. The box shows how many weeks and how much each week.
- 4
Add the School (optional) and choose where leftovers go under When the term ends, what’s left goes to: their Save jar or Next term.
- 5
Tap Set aside term pocket money.
- 6
To add more during term, tap Add money on their school card on Home, choose Wallet (ready straight away) or Term pocket money, and tap Add with the amount, like Add KES 500.
Each week’s share moves from Term pocket money into their Wallet at 06:00 on the same weekday the term started. If the term has already begun, any weeks already due open straight away. The weekly amount is rounded down to the nearest KES 10, and the last week gets what’s left.
During the term
- Home shows a card for each child at school, with their Wallet, Term pocket money and when the next week opens.
- Their page shows This term: which week it is, what was spent each week, Add money, and a button like Release week 4 early for a week they need sooner.
- Visiting day? Record cash you handed over with Use their money on their page.
Rules to know
- At least KES 100 a week, and a term of up to 20 weeks.
- The day after the term ends, you get a term report and the leftover goes where you chose.
- You can set up the next term once this one has ended.
You still keep the cash. Agree with the school or your child how they get it: through the school’s pocket money system, cash at drop-off, or on visiting days.
Questions
Can I change the term total once it’s set?
Add to it with Add money, or release a week early. To start over, wait for the term to end and set up a new one.
My child is a day scholar now. Can I switch to a weekly allowance?
Yes. On their page, under the jars, tap Back home? Switch to a weekly allowance, set the amount and tap Switch to weekly allowance. Anything left in Term pocket money moves to their wallet.
The box says money moves from my wallet. Do I need to pay anything?
No. In this version nothing is paid. It’s a record of the money you’ve set aside at home or with the school.
