Add a child
Add each child with their birthday. The form changes to fit their age group.
Steps
- 1
Open Kids and tap Add a child. On Home you can also swipe to the end of the cards and tap Add a child.
- 2
Fill in First name and Last name, then pick their Birthday. The month and year are needed; add the day too if you want birthday reminders.
- 3
Check the age group card that appears, like Chipukizi or Mvumbuzi. It says what this child gets.
- 4
For a child of 6 or older: pick a Username (tap a suggestion or type your own), then under How they get pocket money choose Weekly allowance or Boarding school.
- 5
With Weekly allowance, set the amount. With Boarding school, you add the term later from their page.
- 6
Type Their 4-digit PIN. Choose it together with your child.
- 7
Tick the box that says you’re their parent or legal guardian, and tap Add child.
Under 6, the form is shorter: no username, no PIN and no allowance. The child gets a savings pot that you run, and a gift link for family. See What each age group gets.
After you add them
- Their card shows on Home and in Kids. Tap it to open their page.
- Their page has the Kids app box with the address, their username and a copy button. Show it to your child.
- Home shows Finish setting up with the next things to do, like the first sign-in or a first task.
Common mistakes
- “That PIN is too easy to guess”: PINs like 1234, 1111, 0000 or 2580 aren’t allowed. Pick another.
- “Someone already has that one”: usernames are unique across myKesho. Tap one of the suggestions.
- “That birthday is still to come”: check the year.
You can add a photo and details like school, class and what they love from About on their page, with Add details. Only parents in your family see these.
